This
section gives information on the friendly bacteria (probiotics)
in our intestinal tract and other bacteria that serve a positive
function on the earth. I have arbitrarily broken it up into
the following three sections:

Research on the Human Immune System
There
seems to be two ways to look at the human immune system. One
way is to look at the big picture and see our immune system
as an awesome, complex, many-faceted system that does an huge
number of tasks for us. The other way is to break this system
down and look into the many components that comprise it. Looking
at the big picture cries out for us to boost our immune system
by giving it whatever it needs to function well. Looking at
the details calls for us to manipulate and heal tiny little
cells, genes and molecules.
As
a humanity, we are clearly going to go through a process of
changing these tiny details by trial and error. We are already
manipulating genes and, while we might understand the one
tiny result we want to produce, we do not know what else each
of those genes does. There is incredible power in changing
the human immune system on this level and many will be healed
of some horrible conditions. Yet there is also a potential
for some bad things to happen since we are manipulating the
genes of bacteria without really understanding what we are
doing.

of gathering research done by the scientific and medical community
on bacteria and the intestines. This is a very important topic
to me because of the continual over-use of antibiotics and
the development of more and more drug-resistant strains of
bacteria. |
